About Real Food Market Jordan and I LOVE the Real Food Market at Embankment (South Bank) so didn't hesitate to visit it after work on Friday as it runs on until 8pm! I absolutely LOVE street food and it's a great way of trying something new without forking out for a 3-course meal at a restaurant. I personally think the food is nicer at the stalls anyway and combined with views of the London Eye, the Thames and the twinkly lights of South Bank ... come on now, who can resist? Conveniently, Churros Garcia was a few stalls down just as we were toying with the idea of dessert. I'd read raving reviews about their churros and was pleased to see that the traditional dish did a pretty good job of replicating the ones that we had in Madrid. Freshly deep-fried strips served with hot chocolate sauce and cinnamon sugar on top. It made us feel nostalgic for the churros in Madrid!

Some feedback :)
Dear Lesley and Churros Garcia Team, I just wanted to tell you how amazing your Churros are, and how much of an impact they made on me: I wrote about them, I told my friends, and I've even sent photographs back home to South Africa so that they all know too. They can't wait to come and try them out! Thank you for the new culinary experience; it's the greatest thing since pop rocks. Best, Stacey -- bakercourt.blogspot.com Churros Garcia: Please note, that we use only paper biodigradable cups (blog keeps mentioning polystyrene) Some feedback from Chocolate Festival Cheer up, it's churro time! Eat London The Churro stand, Portobello Market. I wish I could take this stall home with me. I absolutely love Churros and these are really quite scrumptious. For £3.50 you get a huge cup overflowing with mini Churros, sprinkled liberally with sugar and cinnamon and a little cup of delicious melted dark chocoloate to dip your doughnut in. Fancy a peek? Feeling a little jealous? You should be! This stand is here at Portobello every Saturday and the lady who served us was not only very friendly but also generous with portions, which is always a good thing. My Saturday pilgrimage sorted for now. Kimberley

British Street Food Awards 2010 - Results announced |
Antony Worrall Thompson, Mark Hix and Thomasina Miers were blown away by the food and drink offered up by the finalists in the first British Street Food Awards (www.britishstreetfood.co.uk). The event - created by food journalist and broadcaster Richard Johnson to recognise the best of the 10,000 mobilers who sell their wares on our streets - attracted finalists from all over Britain. A pink VW camper van from Harrogate served up tea and cakes, a polished Airstream trailer from Belfast bunned up the fattest, pinkest burgers you've ever tasted, and a beach hut from the coast of Suffolk served up plump white cod, chips and mushy peas. But the winner was a London ice cream van. Read more...

I found churros! I haven't had these since my visit to Barcelona about seven years ago, where my friends and I went churros mad :) Fried to order I opted to have churros con chocolate over the cinnamon sugar from the Churros Gracia stall in the market. The deep fried pieces of dough were hot, crispy and slightly sweet from the sprinkle of sugar the girl behind the counter put over them. The hot chocolate was good, not too sweet.
